Vocational courses spell big money
The growing popularity of vocational courses offered by Delhi University (DU) is not without reason. As many as 25 vocational subjects are offered in the BA programme, besides a number of certificate courses and a degree in Bachelor of Elementary Education.
The growing popularity of vocational courses offered by Delhi University (DU) is not without reason. As many as 25 vocational subjects are offered in the BA programme, besides a number of certificate courses and a degree in Bachelor of Elementary Education.
Almost all the colleges have excellent placement programmes for students vocational courses. “There is growing demand for vocational courses as the programme is skill-based and students get employed easily,” says Inder Jeet, principal, College of Vocational Studies.
The prominent companies visiting the campus include Kotak Mahindra, ICICI Bank, makemytrip.com, HP Pvt Ltd and the salary begins at Rs 10,000 per month. At Gargi College, the graduates of Bachelor of Elementary Education are scouted by several private schools in Delhi.
“We offer specialisations in Biology, Chemistry, Political Science and English. Schools like Amity, Springdales and Cambridge visit our campus,” said principal Meera Ramachandran. Vocational courses are inter-disciplinary in nature allowing students to have best of both the worlds.
“Graduates employed as executive trainees start at Rs 1.45 lakh per annum,” said AS Reddy, principal, Venkateswara College. The companies that visit for placements include Thomas Cook, Sita Travels, Jet Airways, Spicejet, etc.
