On UP election, Akhilesh says postal ballots ‘tell the truth of 304 seats…’

Five days after Uttar Pradesh saw the BJP's big win in the state assembly polls, former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, the party's key challenger, said that his Samajwadi Party - along with its allies - got "51 per cent of votes in the postal ballot". “The SP alliance got 51.5% votes in the postal ballot and accordingly, the victory of the SP alliance in 304 seats is telling the truth of the election,” Yadav's tweet, roughly translated from Hindi, read. He also thanked the voters - inlcuding government employees and teachers - for picking them.

In a message to the ruling BJP, Yadav said: “Those in power .. remember - 'deception doesn't give strength.”
The Samajwadi Party faced a second consecutive defeat in Uttar Pradesh as it ended up being the runner up with 111 constituencies while the BJP won 255. However, Akhilesh Yadav won from the Karhal constituency and defeated BJP leader and Union minister SP Singh Baghel by a massive margin of 67,504 votes. The party also managed registered a decent vote share.

The SP also had a better performance in this year's election compared to 2017 when it won 47 constituencies. “We have shown that the BJP's seats can be reduced. The fall for the BJP will continue. Half of the misunderstanding has gone, the other half will go too," Akhilesh Yadav tweeted a day after poll results.
During the polls Akhilesh Yadav had alleged that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were being tampered with in several constituencies.
Ahead of the declaration of results on March 10, the SP president levelled serious allegations by saying that "a Varanasi official was transporting EVMs without giving any information to local candidates".
One of the SP's allies, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), has dissolved all-district and divisional units in UP and new office-bearers of the party will be appointed soon. The RLD fielded candidates on 33 seats and won eight of them.
