Bharatiya Janata Party's Chandrakantagouda Channappagouda Patil won the election by upstaging Indian National Congress's Basavaraddi Rangaraddi Yavagal by a margin of 7,979 votes.
The top two candidates split 96.3% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Chandrakantagouda Channappagouda Patil got a total of 73,045 votes, while Indian National Congress's Basavaraddi Rangaraddi Yavagal secured 65,066 votes. Janata Dal (Secular)'s candidate Girimallanagouda Ishwaragouda Patil secured 2,456 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 50.9%, 45.4% and 1.7% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Indian National Congress's B R Yavagal defeated Bharatiya Janata Party's C C Patil by 8,585 votes.
