When Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra revamped the state party unit after its defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, she turned to Tamkuhi Raj MLA Ajay Kumar Lallu for the post of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president, replacing Raj Babbar on October 7, 2019. Tamkuhi Raj is one of the assembly constituencies of Kushinagar Lok Sabha seats in eastern UP that was represented by former union minister RPN Singh. Singh’s move to join the Bharatiya Janata Party came as a major setback to the Congress, making Lallu’s task even more difficult. Lallu has targeted the Yogi Adityanath government over rising inflation and unemployment, etc., in this year’s state elections.
