A 1994-batch officer who helmed the UP Anti-Terrorist Squad and Kanpur Police as its first commissioner, Arun quit the force a week before the elections and join the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has fielded him from Kannauj Sadar – a Samajwadi Party bastion. He said he wanted to serve Dalits and marginalized sections. Arun is the first police officer in the state to be trained as an NSG commando. He has raised a range of issues in his campaign – from law and order, to empowerment of Dalits.
