'Perception is being created...': SP stays defiant as early trends project BJP will retain Uttar Pradesh
Taking to Twitter, the Akhilesh Yadav-led party urged its supporters to stay at voting booths till the final vote is counted.
The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Thursday struck a defiant note as early trends on counting day for the 20222 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections showed that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will win a second consecutive term in office.

“These are not the final trends, only a perception is being created that the BJP is winning so that our workers become demotivated and, after 3pm, elections could be won dishonestly. We appeal all our workers to stay at counting booths till the final vote is counted,” the party's media cell posted on Twitter.
The SP media cell further alleged that the ruling party would conspire with administrations in various districts to win constituencies in which the contest between BJP and SP candidates was ‘close.’
“From opinion polls to exit polls, this is an attempt by big corporates to help BJP and defeat SP. People contested these elections, people will win these elections. Only SP will win,” it said in a subsequent tweet.
In the run-up to counting day, former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, who heads the Samajwadi Party, claimed that the BJP was tampering with EVMs to get results in its favour. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, a day after seventh and final phase polling in UP and exit polls showed that the incumbent government will retain power, albeit with a reduced majority, Yadav asked his party workers to camp outside counting centres to prevent any electoral fraud from taking place.
