Kharagpur comes under the Paschim Medinipur district and it is one of the 294 West Bengal Legislative Assembly Constituencies . People of Kharagpur voted for West Bengal Assembly Election 2021 on March 27 and the result was declared on May 2.

In West Bengal Assembly Election 2016, there were 1,98,527 registered voters for Kharagpur assembly seat, out of which 1,01,340 were male and 97,185 were female voters. 1.2% of voters opted for for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.

What happened last time

In the West Bengal Legislative Assembly Election 2016, Kharagpur constituency had 5 candidates for assembly seat contention. Kharagpur was one of 211 seats won by the Communist Party Of India (Marxist). All India Trinamool Congress's Dinen Roy won the election by upstaging Communist Party Of India (Marxist)'s Sk Sajahan Ali by a margin of 19,099 votes.

97.4% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. All India Trinamool Congress's Dinen Roy grabbed a total of 85,630 votes, while Communist Party Of India (Marxist)'s Sk Sajahan Ali got 66,531 votes. Bharatiya Janta Party's candidate Goutam Bhattacharjee bagged 17,722 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 49.1%, 38.2% and 10.2% respectively.

In West Bengal Assembly election 2011, Communist Party Of India (MARXIST)'s Haque Nazmul beat All India Trinamool Congress's Bilkis Khanam by 2,504 votes.
