This party season, it is not just the Delhi Traffic Police that is braced to combat drunk driving on Delhi roads. Club owners and cab firms are also sharing responsibility to ensure that tipsy revellers do not take to the wheel and prove a hazard to others and themselves.

"It is that time of the year when people let go of guard, so we need to be more alert. Bouncers will escort guests to their cabs if the need be. We also have valet services to drop people to their places. Our managers will escort female guests home," says Mohit Jain, owner of the Jynxxx nightclub in Nehru Place.

ChristmasShibu of TC Adchini says, "Most of the times, it becomes a tricky situation because people don’t want to admit that they are drunk but then we coax them to take a cab and tell them that their car will be delivered to their address next day."

Other party hotspots are also busy tying up with cab services and putting up helpline numbers on walls and tables in order to ensure safety. "We’ll provide a driver in case a person is not in the state to drive," says Deepali Narula of F Bar and Lounge.

NCR, too, is playing it safe. "We have a tie-up initiative against drunk driving with the Gurgaon police, and many restaurants there have booked chauffeurs from us for New Year’s eve so that people don’t drink and drive," says Nikhil Saigal of Home Safe, a chauffeur service.

It was reported earlier that the Delhi Traffic Police plans a special drive from Dec 24 -31 to check drunk driving.

"There’ll be special focus on the pubs, bars and hotels where parties are organised," Satyendra Garg, JCP (traffic) had said recently.
