Karan Johar on whether he'll work with Kartik Aaryan again after Dostana 2 fallout: ‘Never say never’

Karan Johar collaborated with Kartik Aaryan on Dostana 2, but the film was shelved because of what the filmmaker described as “various reasons.”

Karan Johar's fallout with Kartik Aaryan on the sets of Dostana 2 is well-known. In a new interview with Pinkvilla, the filmmaker said that he's not given up on the actor and would like to collaborate with him in the future. What Karan said

“We nearly did a film, but for various reasons, it couldn't happen. But you never say never. I'm sure the feature holds something strong for both of us. We don't know about Dostana, but that film will be defining for both of us,” Karan said in the interview.

About Karan and Kartik's fallout

Karan signed Kartik as one of the leads in his production, Dostana 2, the sequel to Tarun Mansukhani's 2008 hit romantic comedy Dostana. Kartik starred alongside Janhvi Kapoor and newcomer Lakshya in the sequel being directed by Collin D'Cunha.

However, as a result of him throwing weight around on the sets of the film, Kartik was dropped. Dharma Productions issued a statement in which it claimed that with due respect to everyone's privacy, the film was now shelved and would be recast and reshot later. Kartik, Janhvi, and others have also remained mum about the reasons behind the shelving of Dostana 2.

Since then, Karan and Kartik have bumped into each other at film events on camera, and have remained cordial. They even attended the inauguration of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne together this year and Karan had some nice things to say about the actor. He said, "Kartik's films have deeply resonated with the country and has always brought in so much fervour back to the cinema halls. More power to him. May his contribution to cinema always continue. Well done, Kartik."

While Karan recently celebrated 25 years of his directorial debut Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kartik is busy shooting for Kabir Khan's sports drama Chandu Champion.
