What Karan said

When Karan was shown a Valentine's Day greetings card on the podcast, he revealed that he once pretended to be in love with a girl. “She was also Headgirl. In 10th standard, every boy was crushing on a girl. So I thought I should also join this bandwagon and start crushing on her. So I gave her a card, no rose, on Rose Day, not Valentine's Day. She took my card and then called me. And maybe, she was my first reality check. She said, 'You didn't want to give me this card, do you?' I said, ‘No I think you are really nice and I like you.’ She said, ‘Ya, but like you don’t want to give me this card or rose?' And I thought it was rather evolved of her because I really didn't. So obviously, I've exchanged (Valentine's Day) gifts, but for all the wrong reasons, to be ‘cool,’" Karan said on the podcast.

Karan's women crushes

Karan had admitted in his memoir An Unsuitable Boy that the “first and the last girl” he had a crush on was childhood friend, former actor, and author Twinkle Khanna. They even went to the same boarding school, which Karan quit in merely five or six days. He also wrote the character of Tina (Rani Mukerji) originally for Twinkle, but she turned down the role.

Karan has also confessed multiple times that if “things were different,” he would surely be in love with his friend and collaborator Kareena Kapoor. Kareena and Karan collaborated on his 2001 blockbuster family drama Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. Kareena is presently married to actor Saif Ali Khan.

On the work front, Karan recently completed 25 years since the release of his directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
