Shahid also shared another picture of him and Mrunal on a bike ride, which is a still from the Jersey song, Baliye Re. “Gedi maar… With your baliye (Take a ride with your lover),” he wrote on Instagram Stories.

Jersey is Shahid and Mrunal’s first onscreen collaboration. The film, a remake of the Telugu hit of the same name, follows the life of a talented but failed cricketer who returns to the game in his late 30s, driven by the desire to represent the Indian cricket team and fulfil his son’s wish for a jersey as a gift. Gowtam Tinnanauri, who directed the original, has helmed the Hindi adaptation as well.

At the trailer launch of Jersey, Shahid talked about the challenges of starring in a remake. “I have realised it is very difficult to do a remake, and sometimes even tougher than doing an original character because you have to make it fresh, it cannot look like copy-paste. You have to rediscover it all over again,” he said.

Shahid also revealed that he trained on the field for several months for Jersey. “One thing I can say proudly is that there is no shot in the film which is played without a season ball, we have no CG (computer-generated) shots... We worked very hard to bring authenticity to the sport part of it,” he said.

Jersey, which also stars Pankaj Kapur in a pivotal role, is slated for a theatrical release on New Year’s Eve (December 31).
