Swara Bhasker responds as Twitter user claims she is not an outsider, ‘has her family roots in film industry for long’

Swara Bhasker wished to be enlightened as a Twitter user claimed that she is not an 'outsider', as her family has links to the film industry 'for long'.

Swara Bhasker reacted as a Twitter user questioned her credentials as an ‘outsider’ in Bollywood and claimed that her family has links to the industry. The man was responding to a film critic’s Women’s Day-special video on the contribution of five leading ladies, who are ‘outsiders’, to the film industry.

Kangana Ranaut, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Taapsee Pannu and Richa Chadha were also named in the video, apart from Swara. “Swara cant be vouched for outsider, she has her family roots in film industry for long,” the Twitter user wrote.

“Please enlighten me,” the film critic replied. Swara retweeted the tweet and wrote, “And me!” along with laughing and folded hands emojis.

Swara’s mother, academician Ira Bhaskar, served as a member of the Central Board of Film Certification in the past. She quit her position in 2015.

Swara, who has acted in films such as Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Nil Battey Sannata and Veere Di Wedding, has been busy with projects in the OTT space. Last year, she was seen in the Amazon Prime Video series Rasbhari, Eros Now series Flesh and Netflix series Bhaag Beanie Bhaag. Most recently, she starred in the MX Player series Aapkey Kamrey Mein Koi Rehta Hai.

Last year, in an interview with Hindustan Times, Swara said that while it is difficult for outsiders to break into the film industry, it is not impossible. “In the context of my journey, I’d say people like me who’ve been outsiders, and not just actors, but also writers and directors, are a testimony to the fact that of course it’s hard, but it doesn’t mean it’s not possible,” she said.

“The industry has become a lot more answerable to the audience than it ever was before. It’s not so insular anymore. A lot of credit goes to social media and the conversations it has generated. I also feel that the industry has become far more politicised than it was,” she added.
