Tabu believes in giving credit where it’s due. While it’s commonplace that it’s actors who walk away with most credit upon a film’s success, it’s the directors who face the brick-bats when it doesn’t work.

Actor Tabu was last seen in the horror-comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2.

For her, she sees her directors as the one who deserve the applause. “Main apne baare mein bol sakti hoon. For me, my director is the most important person on a film. If I genuinely feel that there’s something that the director has given me, which is of value to me, I will acknowledge that. When I give credit, I truly mean it,” says the 51-year-old, recently seen in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. Both the film and her performance were a hit.

Tabu had, after the film’s success, shared a post on Instagram dedicated to BB2 director Anees Bazmee. “His contribution to my performance was huge. Actors collaborate with directors, and you have to give credit to the space they give you, which has brought out that performance. There is credit for many reasons- putting my point of view, discussing, allowing me to just be myself, also pushing me in the right direction when I am maybe going in another direction. Hence I have to acknowledge when a director of mine brings out something of value,” adds Tabu, who also shares a close rapport with frequent collaborator Vishal Bhardwaj, who she reunites with for Khoofiya.

What’s interesting is that she is working with father and son both, Bhardwaj’s son Aasmaan. He is directing her in Kuttey. Tabu laughs when she says, “I had seen him as a little child on his father’s film sets, running around, and today he has become a director himself. He gets so excited when he gets the shot he wants!”
