Bollywood celebrities are usually inaccessible to the general public. However, when they open the barrier, they eagerly look forward to meeting their fans and gathering praise. No wonder then that when John Abraham agreed to the ‘Call John’ campaign for the promotion of Jhootha Hi Sahi, he didn’t expect to be screamed at by a girl.
Caught on call
The incident happened on Monday night when Rikita Marfatia from Pune called the number the actor shared with the public and yelled at him for wrongly influencing people to lie.
Producer Madhu Mantena, who was present while the actor answered the call, reveals that the lady complained that her boyfriend was getting inspired by his character and had started lying to her. "She also pointed out that even white lies are not good for a relationship and she was hurt by her boyfriend’s behaviour," he informs.
Predictably, Abraham, who was flooded with praises, was quite shocked by the irate caller. However, he tried reasoning with her. Mantena recalls, “He told the girl that he didn’t believe in lying. John thinks that to cover one lie, one has to speak multiple lies. He told her that his face always gave things away. That cooled her down.”
When asked, Abraham says, “Some people say things that don’t sound pleasant. But they have their reasons, like this lady had. When I explained my character to her in context of the storyline, and how I’m the exactly opposite, she was amused.”
