Actress Sushmita Sen has adopted her second child, a baby girl she’s named Alisah.
Actress Sushmita Sen has adopted another girl child.
HT City broke the news last month that the former Miss Universe was planning to adopt another child to give company to her 10-year-old adopted daughter Renee.
Now, she has finally brought home a three-months-old baby girl and named her Alisah. Sush’s family is overjoyed. When we spoke to her younger brother Rajeev Sen, he sounded thrilled. “I’m delighted to be an uncle again. The inclusion of a new member in the family is a special thing, and we’re all very happy for Sush. She’s been a great mother to Renee and I’m sure she’ll take care of Alisah in the best way possible. The family will be in Mumbai to celebrate very soon,” he said.
In an interview to a Mumbai daily, 34-year-old Sushmita has been quoted as saying, “I am on top of the world. Alisah means ‘joyful’ in Greek and she is a very happy child.”
Filmmaker and close friend Farah Khan was one of the first few people to get the news two weeks ago and congratulated the actress. “I was thrilled. It is a wonderful thing that she is done and it takes tremendous courage to do something like this. In today’s world where even married people don’t want to take responsibility of having kids, for a single woman to adopt not one but two girls deserves a medal. I have always loved Sush and now I love her even more,” she said.
Sushmita, who was spotted shopping for clothes and toys for a newly born about a month ago, had been mulling over the decision to adopt again for quite some time now. Sush, who adopted Renee in the year 2000, was always keen on adopting another child. In fact, she had stated in earlier interviews that a High Court ruling putting a restriction on adopting two baby girls consecutively had made her delay her decision. It’s only after the Court amended the ruling that she could fulfill her wish of bringing home another baby girl.
A close friend, who does not wish to be named, said, “Sush wanted to relive motherhood and was looking for a sibling for Renee. She was making regular visits to adoption centers lately, and finally decided on Alisah.”
Sush is currently in a relationship with lyricist-filmmaker Mudassar Aziz.
