New torchbearers of fashion
This year saw an emergence of new Bollywood fashion icons who defined style with their own signature twist.
While guest editor actor Shah Rukh Khan maintained that he is fashion illiterate and fails to understand the finer nuances of style, actor Priyanka Chopra was upbeat about the new style statement popularised by stars such as Farhan Akhtar, Imran Khan and Vidya Balan.

It was a year full of pleasant fashion surprises. Far from your regular label flaunting, not a hair out of place fashionistas, 2011 saw stars who shone for their near-natural, almost effortless approach to fashion. And, as we bid adieu to the year, we look back at stars who started a whole new blitzkrieg of individualistic fashion.
Though guest editor Shah Rukh Khan Khan maintained that he doesn’t quite understand what makes a style statement, Priyanka Chopra was forthcoming in saying that this year, Vidya Balan has taken the lead in showing how the in-your-face, sexy look can also seem so stylish.
Another star who redefined cool this year, according to Priyanka is the Don 2 director, Farhan Akhtar. In his beefed up look in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Farhan confirmed his position as the new sex symbol. Her next choice in the Bollywood fashion icons for 2011 is actor Imran Khan. "Imran’s Delhi Belly look was something every cool, young guy could relate to," she says.
Style experts can’t help but agree with our guest editor’s choice. Designer Masaba says, "Vidya Balan, post her The Dirty Picture look, heralded a new definition of sexy that celebrates curves, actor Imran Khan, romanticised the boy-next-door look. Filmmaker-actor Farhan Akhtar showed us that you don’t have to dress stiff to be a fashion icon."

Man of the moment
"Imran’s casual style looks approachable. He wears well-fitted clothes that do not scream designer labels," says designer Raakesh Agarvwal.
Designer Ranna Gill says, "Farhan’s ability to mix and match makes him appealing."
What makes Vidya click
Masaba says, "Women connect with Vidya and relate to her voluptuous look and dressing style that is ethnic but sexy."
