Just a few weeks after the couple ended their three-year romance, the Oscar-winning actress was all smiles as she met a female friend for lunch,

Looking casual in a checked shirt and grey skirt, the 33-year-old actress looked happy as she caught up with a friend over sushi in Los Angeles.

Witerspoon had plenty to talk about with her blonde friend as they dined at the Sugar Fish Sushi restaurant, before making a pitstop at the Tavern Cafe for takeaway coffee.

star presented her friend with a belated Christmas gift before saying goodbye.

Witherspoon and Gyllenhaal mutually ended their relationship last month. The former couple met on the set of

Rendition

in late 2006, a few months after she split fromex-husband Ryan Phillippe, father of her two children Ava, ten, and Deacon, six.

Sources close to the couple said the relationship just ran its course naturally.

"There are no other people involved. The relationshipjust ended. It just fizzled. But they also wanted to be careful and private about it because of Reese's kids," a source said.
