Anderson, who has had a long association with PETA writes that she has given up on hoping the leather trade will take steps to reduce the suffering of these animals stating, “India’s laws prohibit animals from being crammed onto vehicles in such high numbers that their bones break, ban handlers from smearing chilli seeds into cows’ eyes and breaking their tails, and prevent animals from being hacked to pieces in front of each other while still conscious, yet all this continues, involving countless animals every day.”

In the letter, she also asks people never to buy leather shoes, jackets or anything else made of animal skin, in order to help put an end to the suffering.
