Shah Rukh, Farah Khan hug and meet at vanity van backstage of Apsara awards, SRK says he hugs all beautiful women, Farah admits she won’t discuss work with him.entertainment Updated: Jan 13, 2011 14:21 IST
In this industry where friendships are rare, so are ‘patch-ups’. While recent photographs may suggest otherwise, friends-turned-foes Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan haven’t exactly made up. When questioned about sharing a hug with Farah at the Apsara Awards, Shah Rukh says, “I hug all beautiful girls and Farah Khan is beautiful, so I hugged her.”
While the real reason for the fall-out is best known to SRK and Farah alone, reports state that the two distanced themselves from each other after Farah signed Akshay Kumar for Tees Maar Khan because Shah Rukh had to postpone her film Happy New Year due to his shoulder injury. After recovery, Shah Rukh had decided to first give time to Farhan Akhtar’s Don 2 and his ambitious home production, Ra.One. That didn’t go down too well with Farah. The two stopped attending each other’s parties and Farah was spotted bonding with people SRK is famously not fond of, even celebrating her birthday at Shah Rukh’s rival Salman Khan’s farmhouse in Karjat.
Farah even modelled Akshay Khanna’s character in Tees Maar Khan on Shah Rukh, revealing Khan cribbing about refusing a role in Slumdog Millionaire when he saw Anil Kapoor dancing with the Oscar trophy on TV.
Farah maintains that the two will always be friends, saying, “At another award function, where Shah Rukh was hosting the show, he had called me to meet him back stage but I couldn’t find his van. But today, his van was right in front and his spot boy asked me to come in and meet him.”
Ask her about reports of their strained friendship, and she responds, “It takes exactly five seconds to hug and make up. Whatever has happened between Shah Rukh and me is between us. I knew that when we eventually met, all would be fine.” Elaborating on what they discussed in his vanity van, she says, “We discussed our babies. I showed him their photos and had a normal chat like we used to earlier.”
When asked if they’d work together again, she says, “I don’t want to discuss work with him now.”
Shah Rukh Khan received the Hindustan Times Reader's Choice Awards for the Best Entertainer of the Year at the Apsara Awards, held in association with Hindustan Times on January 11. Khan thanked HT readers for the award saying, “My Name Is Khan is a special film for me. We tried to make something so that people learn as well as get entertained. When I go to an award function, my kids don’t know if I will get an award, but they expect me to return with something. So there’s a lot of pressure. Though they’ll be asleep by the time I get home, I’ll put the trophy beside their bed, so they wake up and see it. They’ll be happy and kiss me. So thank you for getting me extra kisses from my children.”
