Pakistani actor Veena Malik says India has given her the best Diwali gift she could have ever got. The 27-year-old recently adopted a seven-year-old girl from Mumbai after visiting NGOs in the city for four months. Veena will sponsor the child for all purposes now.
Pakistani actor Veena Malik says India has given her the best Diwali gift she could have ever got. The 27-year-old recently adopted a seven-year-old girl from Mumbai after visiting NGOs in the city for four months. Veena will sponsor the child for all purposes now.
“Her name is Payal Kambale and her mother is a victim of sex trade. India has given me a lot of love. I cannot give back all of it, but I can do something for this country,” she says, adding, “Payal is a very nice and shy child. She loves sports, she is a great football player. She loves going for drives and is good in studies too. I am her mother now, so during her holidays, I would like to take her to Pakistan and maybe have her accompany me on my trips abroad. Payal’s mother was also glad to see her daughter happy.”
The actor could not stay back in India to spend Diwali with Payal today due to visa constraints. "I get a conditional visa only for 45 days. That is the reason I can’t do much work in India. My 45- day stay has expired so I had to return to Pakistan yesterday," she says. However, she celebrated the festival of lights in advance with Payal, before she left. "I took sweets, chocolates and crackers for her. I burst many crackers too. I enjoyed a lot. Back home, my people consider it very juvenile so I can’t do it there," she says.
‘Good friend’ Ashmit Patel is also very happy about her decision. “Ashmit is not in India right now, but he knows it all and is quite excited about my decision. He would like to meet Payal too. He is an adorable friend and I love him,” she says.
