With the help of minister of textiles Smriti Irani, #CottonIsCool has gone viral on social media. Many including ministers, Bollywood actors and fashion designers are posting pictures in their favourite cotton creations in support of the campaign.

Remember how #iwearhandloom trended on Twitter back in August? In a similar celebration of the Indian weaver and craftsmen, minister of textiles, Smriti Irani, has brought #CottonIsCool to the fore. As the hashtag suggests, the online movement urges people to share their pictures wearing summer-perfect cotton, in celebration of India being a big producer, market and supporter of cotton. Since the past few days, the official Twitter handle of the Ministry of Textiles has been sharing various facts, anecdotes related to cotton, using #CottonKatha to bring into focus India’s historic connect with the cotton industry, and its evolution over the years.

Irani too shared her thoughts on Twitter.

The minister then kicked of the #CottonIsCool campaign by sharing her own picture in a cotton sari, and asking others to do so, in support of the producers and the industry as a whole.

Soon, the hashtag got trending, and those who joined the campaign include actor Hema Malini, FDCI president Sunil Sethi, CM of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar, among others. Here are some of the posts:
