Let’s face it. The days of school uniform are over for you now. Once college opens, you’ll have to dress up each day for your classes. To avoid looking like an overdressed disco queen/king or a sloppily-dressed fuchcha, follow these tips to get the right look for campus.

Jeans, of course
A pair of jeans is the most important part of any college student’s wardrobe. Find a brand that fits you well and then buy different colours and washes in it. Make sure you don’t go overboard in buying jeans with metallic golden or silver embellishments: you don’t want to be nicknamed chamko rani! Or do you?

Floaters
DU swears by these strappy, lightweight, stylish, rubber sandals. It’s perfect for all seasons. This one-time investment will last you your graduation and beyond.

Jhola or a bag
The jhola culture in DU and JNU will never fade. Buy one from Janpath and you are all set to look trendy. It goes with ethnic as well as western wear. If you are not the jhola kinds, then go for big, colourful branded bags. You can find knockoffs in Janpath.

Comfy T-shirts
Basic cotton T-shirts will help you brave the summer heat. Stay away from loud and wannabe cool slogans like “I am a b**** and so are you”. You don’t want unwanted attention.

Sunblock & deo
Do keep a sunblock with a good SPF level in your bag to keep your skin from tanning. Deodorants will not only make you smell nice but also help you deal with sweaty, smelly people you may come across while travelling by public transport.

White cotton shirts
The wardrobe is incomplete without a crisp, white button-down shirt. You can either pair it with jeans for a casual outing, or an elegant skirt for a simple, evening look. Whatever the combo, the white shirt is a definite classic.

Sunglasses
A pair of good sunglasses will look trendy and keep your eyes safe. Make sure you choose a style that suits your face.
