Facing criminal charges by Elite Model Management over non-payment of dues up to Rs 19 lakh, Mindscapes Maestros Events and Sports Management claims that the issue is a case of revenge.
The company that signed Mahendra Singh Dhoni for Rs 210 crore was dragged into a legal suit after a deal made by their former director, Yudhajit Dutta, with Elite CEO Sushma Puri for services during the Kolkata Fashion Week (KFW) were not fully honoured."Yudhajit Dutta was removed from the board of directors because he had established a company called Purple People, which he was operating along side Mindscapes," reveals Pratik Sen, director of Mindscapes.
“He and Sushma planned to start a rival fashion week, Kolkata Fashion and Lifestyle Week, knowing that the city can’t support two fashion weeks. We decided not to use Elite for the next KFW, and that’s why she has created a furore.”
Since Dutta was removed from the Mindscapes board of directors, he has been claiming he wasn’t a part of the deal. Sen also insists that of the Rs 49 lakh bill presented by Elite, they’ve cleared Rs 30 lakh.
“In the first season, they charged us Rs 38 lakh. Then they inflated it to Rs 49 lakh for the second. We have cleared Rs 30 lakh of that. I met Sushma to tell her that I would clear the remaining dues, but only after they revised the rate.”
However, Puri insists that Elite has charged the market rate for the event. “They may have used more models and technicians, which is why they were billed more,” she says, adding, “And as far as plotting a rival fashion week goes, I didn’t sign an exclusivity
That goes against our basic business model. These claims are ridiculous and being made only to confuse the real issue of non-payment.
