Hideous or lovely? Sonam Kapoor’s Veere di Wedding screening look divides social media

Actor Sonam Kapoor Ahuja wore a quirky two-piece with nerdy glasses to Veere di Wedding’s private screening on Wednesday. And now people on social media are targeting her for her outfit choice.
Can people just let Sonam Kapoor Ahuja live? It’s been impossible to look anywhere on the internet in the last few days without stumbling upon some discussion on the Veere di Wedding actor. The film, which also stars Kareena Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania, will release on Friday.
After the newly-wed actor was trolled for wearing her mangalsutra as a bracelet, social media is now throwing shade at Sonam’s latest fashion choice. She was spotted in Mumbai on Wednesday wearing a quirky pastel blue coordinating set by designer Rahul Mishra, a choice that’s attracted a barrage of negative attention on social media.

Sonam, who hardly sticks to the norm when it comes to fashion, attended her film Veere Di Wedding’s private screening wearing a ruffled cold shoulder crop top and matching wide-legged trousers from the designer’s spring 2018 collection. Halo braid and oversize nerdy glasses completed her look. An appropriate, pretty casual, and not so typical outfit for a movie screening, one might think.

But no. On Instagram, Sonam has been criticised for her choice of outfit. Yes, really. While it’s not uncommon for Sonam to show her style prowess at events, often wearing something unexpected (can you forget her Cannes 2018 looks?), the reaction to her latest looks, (yes, because Sonam was also slammed for having fun with another outfit on Thursday, but more on that in a bit) has been less than flattering, to say the least.

Beneath an Instagram post with a picture of Sonam and her husband Anand Ahuja’s look from Veere Di Wedding screening, a dispiritingly large number of people expressed their disapproval at the star’s outfit, with many making jibes about her “fashionista” status, dubbing her look as “hideous,” “major fail” and “bad,” and saying she would have looked better had she not tried to mix too many outfits together. “Too much going on,” said one user named nisha_mulla. Another wrote: “Hospital ke patient ki dress lag rahi hai.”

And they didn’t stop there. Many Instagram users also took the opportunity to slam Sonam’s look from Thursday, when she was spotted in Mumbai wearing a colourful saree that’s ideal for a woman who loves a bit of drama: A blue floral saree from the label Neeru’s Indian, paired with a contrasting slouchy crop top.
While One user named khanjan_modha posted, “Fashion k nam par dhaabaaaaa hai ye,” another laxmikhanna called her look “Horrible.”
Another named sizuyadav added, “Just for the sake of standing out, she wears anything...complete disaster.”
However, many leapt to Sonam’s defence.
A user called nibbyglitterbug was in favour of Sonam’s unusual style, writing, “Everything about this look, from the hair, to the glasses to the outfit... I love and would wear... Just pure on point - everything and extremely on trend.”
Another impressed user wrote, “I really appreciate the experiments she does wid her clothing.”
