Romantic, fun or bold, retro hairstyles are a great way to instantly go glam. Flaunt your feminine side with delicate, wavy curls or an asymmetrical bob. Or play the diva with a scarf-tied updo or classic milkmaid braid. Dressing up for that glam date? Nothing works better than a rolled-back updo or timeless Hollywood curls.

With a bevy of celebrities sporting these party-worthy styles recently, there cannot be a better time to try one out for yourself.

Soft, wavy bob with a side part makes for a romantic, effortless look. Keep your waves less structured and makeup minimal for this retro style. Get it right: Take one-inch section of your hair. Use hair spray before putting every section into a hair roller. Blow dry for 5-10 minutes. Take out your rollers after they cool. Fingercomb your hair.

The immensely retro scarf-tied updo imparts a casual, teasing look. Instead of polkas, go for colourful or printed scarves to keep the look modern. Get it right: Side-part your hair. Tie it back in ponytail or make a quick bun. Knot a scarf on the side of your parting and let your flicks peep out.

We love this slick, stylish twisted pouf. This fuss-free, no-one-messes-with-me look goes well with formal ensembles. Get it right: Take your flicks from the crown section and backcomb to make a pouf. Curl the end using an iron rod and pin up the entire pouf section securely in place. Make a bun at the back of the remaining hair.

Kat Graham and Aubrey O' Day with asymmetrical bob and milkmaid braids respectively.

Asymmetrical bob styled in waves is as good as it can get. Short curls is the hottest new trend on the beauty block. Get it right: Use a texturing spray before curling your hair into these beachy waves. Take random sections of hair and curl them using an iron rod. Smaller the sections, curlier the wave. Milkmaid braids can work with open hair, buns or like in this case, with fishtail braids. Get it right: Divide your tresses into two parts by taking out a middle parting. Take the front section from one side. Plait a classic three-strand braid till your ears to get what we call a milkmaid braid. Make a fishtail braid with the rest of the hair, including the remaining section of hair at one side. Repeat on the other side.

Hollywood curls add instant volume, and may be even glamour to your hair. This vintage hairstyle is for the modern, confident women. Get it right: Use dry shampoo at the crown of your head for lift. Curl your hair using a one-inch curling iron. Finish it with a touch of hairspray.
