BKU backs power bill waiver plan

A delegation of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), led by general secretary Ram Phal Kandela, met senior discom officials on Thursday and offered to co-operate so that villagers could avail benefits of the bill waiver scheme.

In case the discoms converted to the Punjab model, BKU would support it as the system was safer and could ensure better power supply.

Under the scheme, if consumers pay off the principal bill amount pertaining to the period with effect from June 17, 2005 in one go, all pending bills, pertaining to the period up to June 16, 2005 and late payment surcharge would be waived off, a release said. The benefit could be availed up to March 31.
