A 32-year-old Chinese national, who was working as an engineer in a multinational company, allegedly committed suicide on Thursday morning by jumping off the Spaze Techpark building in Sector 49 in Sohna Road.

Shuangfa Luo, from Shenzhen city in China, was working as a technical engineer at Huawei for the last two years. He lived with his wife in an apartment in Tower 23 of Orchid Petals residential complex near Spaze Techpark.

He was reportedly suffering from depression and, according to the police, eyewitnesses said he was seen restlessly talking on the phone before jumping down the gap between staircases.

“His wife has claimed that he was suffering from depression due to some personal reasons. We handed over the body after the a post-mortem examination. The Chinese embassy has been informed about the incident,” said Vijay Kumar, SHO, Sadar police station. The autopsy was conducted at Medanta hospital.

“He was looking down at the floor again and again as if something was going on in his mind. Suddenly, he kept his phone aside and jumped off,” said investigating officer assistant sub-inspector Prahlad Kumar, quoting statements by eyewitnesses.

Luo jumped around 11 am and died on the spot, Kumar said.

Many of the employees on the seventh and eighth floors of the building were not sure as to what happened. While some said he jumped off the seventh floor, others claimed it was the eighth.

Security personnel at the building cordoned off the spot where Luo landed and also sealed the staircase. “It is for precaution and cleaning purposes,” a building caretaker said.

A Huawei spokesperson said, “We are deeply saddened by the incident today and our deepest condolences are with the family. The health and safety of our employees is of paramount focus to us and we at Huawei follow employee health safety norms and guidelines.”
