Constable held for bribery

A state vigilance department team arrested a constable on Monday for demanding a bribe from a truck driver. The vigilance team got a tip-off about the illegal practice before they conducted a raid on Monday evening.

A state vigilance department team arrested a constable on Monday for demanding a bribe from a truck driver. The vigilance team got a tip-off about the illegal practice before they conducted a raid on Monday evening.

Constable Pramod Kumar, also the driver of Bilaspur’s SHO, had demanded Rs8,500 from a truck driver against a penalty on his overloaded truck.

The truck driver and his helper were present when officials caught the constable.

At the time of the raid, the driver had already handed over Rs2,500, but Kumar had asked for more. The driver had asked Kumar to talk to his boss on the phone to strike a better deal. While Kumar spoke to the owner, the conversation was recorded on the phone.

Later, the truck owner handed a copy of the voice recording to the vigilance team. The constable is in police remand the police are investigating the scam.
