The police said the woman, Moti Mani Kunwar, was returning home from a temple when the duo posed as plainclothes policemen and asked her to hide her jewellery as snatching cases were on the rise.
The duo then switched the gold bangles with ordinary ones, on pretext of helping her pack. The woman found out that she had been cheated only when she reached home, the police said.
The police lodged a case under section 406 against the duo. “We have lodged a case against the two unknown men and are investigating the case,” assistant sub-inspector Bijendra Singh said.
Thursday’s incident cannot be dismissed as one-off. On June 30, three different cases were reported in which elderly women were targeted by men posing as police. In all the cases, the women were asked to hide their jewellery.
