Footpath, drains get a makeover

After a long wait, the developer, DLF, has started the work on footpath and drainage system in DLF City Phase 4. Workers on Thursday replaced broken tiles with new ones and spruced up the drainage system by placing fresh sewer pipelines. Leena Dhankhar reports.

After a long wait, the developer, DLF, has started the work on footpath and drainage system in DLF City Phase 4. Workers on Thursday replaced broken tiles with new ones and spruced up the drainage system by placing fresh sewer pipelines.

The DLF City Residents Welfare Association (RWA) has been demanding the refurbishment of pavements and cleaning of drains in the locality. “We are carrying out several development works for the benefit of residents. Tiles are being laid on the pedestrian way along the 1-km green area,” said Baljeet Singh, general manager, DLF Estate Developers Limited.

Vijay Devgan, a resident, said, “The footpaths were not properly constructed. This was causing huge inconvenience to pedestrians. The main road connects to Galleria shopping complex so it remains busy throughout the day. Now, senior citizens and women will have more space to walk.”

Chakarpur, a DLF City neighbourhood, had been grappling with severe drainage problems for several years. The overflowing sewer had made the area a cesspool.

“Existing drains are not adequate. To place new pipelines, land is being dug up in several areas. Besides, manholes are also being made at different points so that de-silting can be done easily,” added Singh.

The residents of DLF City, Sushant Lok B Block and Chakarpur have welcomed the work initiated by the developer. “We are sure that the work on footpaths being carried out will help the residents in many ways. This would cut down the number of road accidents as pedestrians have enough space,” said Ram Singh, a guard.
