Green line gets thicker; biodiversity park in Aravali

In an effort to preserve the natural beauty of the Aravali hills, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) is planning to develop a biodiversity park here on the pattern of an existing park in south Delhi ridge of the mountain range.

“We want a park in Gurgaon similar to the one located in the Aravali ridge in south Delhi, where one can enjoy a complete thematic beauty of Aravali vegetation, animals and birds,” Huda administrator Praveen Kumar said.

On Tuesday, Kumar visited south Delhi’s park to discuss the plan with the experts who have been involved in the development of the park. “We exchanged lots of ideas. The Huda administrator was very enthusiastic about implementing the same in Gurgaon,” said M Shah Hussain, scientist in-charge, Aravali Biodiversity Park, Delhi. Though a part of the mountain range in Gurgaon has been identified as biodiversity park, no effort has been made to make it popular among the nature lovers.

“Fernery, rare species, cut slopes, rainwater harvesting systems are common but prominent features of a biodiversity park. We want to take help in all matters from them,” the Huda chief said, adding that he wanted to conduct a survey before preparing an estimate for the project.

The administrator has asked his subordinates to prepare a list of rare species so as to make an estimate. The department will also rope in experts and scientists to prepare a lay out for the park soon.
