Gurgaon residents complain of water shortage, Huda says supply normal

Residents have blamed the Huda for not supplying adequate water from the treatment plants.

Water continues to be in short supply in several areas of Gurgaon with no relief in sight. The crisis has come at a time when temperature has started to rise.

Old city areas such as Model Town, Shanti Nagar, New Colony, Patel Nagar, sectors 21, 22, 23 and 45, and private colonies DLF and Sushant Lok have been facing acute water shortage in the last few days.

Hemant Kumar of New Colony said, “The MCG (Municipal Corporation of Gurugram) engineers are not able to maintain water supply as lines are old and they burst or leak frequently, causing supply problems. In summer, such problems appear frequently. We have been getting erratic water supply in the last 15 days.”

The Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) gets raw water from Yamuna river and treats it at two plants in Basai and Chandu Budhera before distributing it in Gurgaon.

Residents have blamed the Huda for not supplying adequate water from the treatment plants.

“The Huda supplies 52 to 55 MGD only which is not sufficient for the city. Chandu Budhera plant has been facing electricity problem that has been causing supply issues,” Subhash Piplani of Sector 10 said.

“We get water in tankers to suffice our daily needs as we do not get adequate water supply. The last 15 days have been tough after a booster got damaged, and Huda and MCG officials were in a fix on how to resolve the issue,” SN Yadav of Sector 21 said.

The residents of DLF Phase 3 did not get adequate water supply on Sunday because of a leakage in the master water pipeline near Shankar Chowk.

“I called the Huda engineers and lodged a complaint. They told me there was a leakage in the main line because of construction and it will be fixed shortly. The water problem has become frequent,” CD Mittal of DLF Phas 3 said.

The Huda, however, claims to have been supplying 70 million gallons per day (MGD) water daily.

Naresh Pawar, superintending engineer, Huda, said, “We have resolved the electricity problem at Chandu Budhera plant and we are supplying adequate water. There will be no water crisis.”
