Gurgaon’s tree survey ends, report in three months

“The survey for South Circle has ended and the report will be revealed in the next three months,” said Pankaj Goel, conservator of forest, Gurgaon.

With Gurgaon growing leaps and bounds to accommodate its migratory population, the city’s green cover has been sacrificed many times for various infrastructural projects.

In collaboration with the regional office of the Forest Survey of India (FSI), the Gurgaon forest department started this survey. “The survey had started from South Circle. Once the entire state of Haryana is covered, the results will be out,” added Goel.

South Circle comprises five districts — Gurgaon, Mewat, Mahendergarh, Faridabad and Palwal. Mewat and Mahendergad were the first to be surveyed. Several development projects are coming up in the Millennium City for which many trees have been felled. Moreover, there have been massive encroachments and illegal constructions in the protected forest areas and greenbelts of the city.
