A cab driver was allegedly robbed of his car at gunpoint by three men on a bike on MG Road on Monday night. The driver was employed by an agency that provides cab services to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). According to the complaint, the driver was on way home after filling the car’s fuel tank when the incident took place.

The complainant stated two of the accused got off the bike and drove off in his white WagonR, while the third remained seated on the two-wheeler. He, too, fled the scene, the victim said.

Yadram, who has been driving cabs at TCS for the past one year, stopped at the Sector 29 CNG petrol pump for refueling.

“When I started driving towards Iffco Chowk, three men on a Royal Enfield bike came in front of the car and blocked my way near the wine shop. Two of them asked me to come out of the car. One held a pistol,” Yadram, who hails from Mainpuri district in UP, said in his complaint.

The 30-year-old driver, who has been residing as a tenant in village Narsinghpur in Gurgaon, told the cops that the two snatched away the car keys and drove off, while the third one fled on the bike.

“The car’s registration certificate (RC), pollution certificate, other important documents of the company and two mobile phones provided by the company were also stolen,” he said.

He made a PCR call and a case was registered at Sector 29 police station on Tuesday morning.

“The case has been registered under IPC section 392 (robbery) and the Arms Act. The police is investigating the matter,” ASI Sandeep Kumar said.

Satbir Singh, the security head of TCS GG7 at Skyview Corporate Park in sector 74(A), said, “The cabs as well as the drivers are provided to us by Sun National Transport Company (SNTC).”

Vinod Kumar, SNTC director operations, said that driver Yadram had been on leave since Friday.

“He had not been coming to work for 3-4 days and I called him to find out what happened. He told me he had been robbed. The compensation would be provided by the owner of the car,” Kumar said.

He said that the car was provided to SNTC by a private owner and he has been informed of the incident. The owner couldn’t be reached for comments.

Incidents of car thefts have increased over the last few months in the city, the police said. On July 11, an Uber cab driver was robbed of his WagonR in the Civil Lines area by two persons on a bike.

In April, another Uber cab driver was robbed of his car at gunpoint on Dwarka Expressway. The same month, a Hyundai Creta and a Toyota Fortuner were snatched at gunpoint in two separate incidents in the city.
