The damage affected areas such as sectors 9, 9A, 10, 10A, 4, 7, 7 extensions 21, 22, 23, Ashok Vihar, Palam Vihar, Rajiv Nagar among others. Huda said it is going all out to restore normal supply at the earliest.

Since February, more than dozen leakages in the Huda pipeline have been reported across the city disrupting water supply to thousands of households.

The Basai water treatment plant is located on the fringes of the city and close to Northern Peripheral Road (NPR) near Sector 100/102.

Till late evening on Saturday, the Huda engineers had managed to repair about 80% of the damaged portion.

Satbir Singh, sub-divisional officer (SDO), Huda who is in charge of the Basai plant, said, “The pipeline was leaking for the past few days. We decided to replace the damaged portion with new pipes. We had to stop supply for a day. We will restore normal supply by Sunday.”

The pipeline was damaged seven to eight times on the Delhi Gurgaon Expressway over the past four months during digging for underpasses at Iffco Chowk, Signature Tower, Rajiv Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk and elsewhere.

Ram Singh, a resident of Sector 9, said, “We have not been getting our morning and evening supplies over the last two days. We had to hire private tankers to meet our needs.”
