The Haryana urban development authority (Huda) said it will remove the petrol pump on the Mehrauli-Gurgaon (MG) Road near Central Mall by end of January. Huda’s failure to find an alternative plot for the fuel station has delayed the construction of an underpass on the MG Road for over nine months.
Officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) raised the issue of the petrol pump becoming a hurdle in a closed-door meeting with chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday at the PWD Rest House. The meeting was held after the chief minister inaugurated two underpasses built by NHAI at Rajiv Chowk and Signature Tower.
“During the meeting, Huda assured the chief minister that it has identified the land to shift the petrol pump, and shifting the station should not take more than a week’s time,” an NHAI official present in the meeting said, adding that the petrol pump has blocked the construction of the underpass for over nine months.
Huda (Gurgaon)administrator Yashpal Yadav said, “The petrol pump will be removed in a week for sure. Huda has identified alternative land and it will be allotted to petrol pump owner. We want the NHAI to complete the construction of the underpass at the earliest.”
“Of the five underpasses and five flyovers the NHAI constructed in past one-and-a-half years, the only hurdle is this petrol pump disturbing construction of the underpass at MG Road,” the NHAI official said.
NHAI officials said they would take a month to finish constructing the remaining portion of the underpass on the MG Road after the petrol pump is removed. Once the underpass is complete, the NHAI will be in a position to open all remaining underpasses and flyovers for traffic by end of March.
Subject to timely removal of the petrol pump, the NHAI plans to open two underpasses on the Hero Honda Chowk and MG Road, and three flyovers at the Iffco Chowk in March.
On January 1, Haryana chief secretary DS Dhesi had asked Huda to allot alternative plot to the petrol pump and shift it in a week’s time so land can be handed over to the NHAI for construction of MG Road underpass.
In October last year, the NHAI had written to the Haryana government to remove the petrol pump after contractor had to stop work.
In June 2017, principal secretary to chief minister Rajesh Khullar had also reviewed the shifting of the petrol pump and other issues disturbing NHAI constructions.
