A man made off with jewellery worth `8 lakh from a shop in Gurgaon’s New Colony area around 2:30pm on Thursday afternoon.

The man, who fled on a two-wheeler waiting outside the shop, had approached the sales girls showing interest in buying gold chains, the police said.

Apart from two sales girls, owner of the shop Anita Bhola was also at the shop when the man entered. While looking at different chains, he suddenly picked up four chain boxes and fled the spot. One of the sales girls, Zainab, tried to get hold of him but in vain, the police said.

As he rushed outside, one of the boxes fell from his hands. But, he managed to get away on the motorcycle that was waiting for him, the police said.

Bhola filed a complaint at the City police station. She told the police that the man managed to make off with 15 gold chains worth `8 lakh. The police have booked the unidentified man under Section 379 A (snatching) of the Indian Penal Code.

“We have filed a case against the man. The incident was caught on CCTV cameras of the shop and we have procured it to identify him,” assistant sub-inspector Sant Ram, the investigating officer, said.
