Man stays with wife’s hanging body for two days in Gurgaon flat

A 31-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in the room that locked from inside at her rented accommodation in Sector 14, Gurgaon.

The police said the body of the deceased, Abhilasha, was hanging from the ceiling fan for more than two days while her husband stayed in the next room on the second floor of the house.

The woman’s family from Bihar has lodged a dowry death case against the five members of her in-laws’ family, including her absconding husband Ramadhar Sharma.

Ramadhar, 40, is a scientist at a medical disposable products manufacturing unit at Roz-ka- Meo industrial area in Sohna, 30km from Gurgaon. His cellphone has been switched off since Tuesday, police officials said.

The police was informed about the alleged suicide on Tuesday afternoon by the woman’s brother Krishna Nandyaji who came from Bihar after repeated calls to her sister went unanswered for two days. At 2pm, the police broke open the door and found the body hanging from the ceiling fan. Ramadhar had left the house by then.

“The body had started decomposing. It seems she hanged herself two days before we were informed,” said investigation officer and ASI Bani Singh.

Both Abhilasha and Ramadhar are from Bihar. They got married in 2014. She had been living with her in-laws in Bihar till two months back when the couple moved to a rented two-room house owned by retired PWD engineer Ravinder Singh Yadav. Before that Ramadhar, a PhD, lived in Sector 15.

Those close to the family said the couple had been fighting since they started living together in Gurgaon. Last month, the deceased had locked herself inside the room when she had an argument with one of her husband’s relatives.

“Barring the usual arguments, the couple was peaceful,” said Yadav.

The police said Ramadhar was in the house till 8am on Tuesday when the domestic help visited.

Based on the complaint at the Civil Lines police station, a case has been lodged against Ramadhar, his father Radhe Shyam, uncle Krishan Nand Singh, brother Ramanuj Sharma and sister-in-law under sections 304-B (dowry death), 498 A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 34 (common intention) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“The body was handed over to the kin after post-mortem, who cremated her at Sarai Kale Khan’s electric crematorium,” said Singh.
