Minor apprehended for attempt to rape

An FIR was registered on Saturday under Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) and Section 18 (attempt to commit an offence) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences(POCSO) Act.

A 17-year-old boy was apprehended for allegedly trying to rape an eight-year-old girl, who was his neighbour, police said Monday. The suspect was sent to a juvenile home in Faridabad on Saturday.

The girl, a Class-1 student, used to go to the accused’s house to watch television and the boy had tried to rape her multiple times, said Garima, station house officer(SHO) of Sector 51 women police station. “The incident came to light when the girl’s tuition teacher was taking a class on ‘good touch’ and ‘bad touch’ on Friday evening. The girl told the teacher her neighbour touches her badly that then prompted the teacher to inform her parents,” the SHO said.

“The girl told her parents that the boy used to take her to a room and then strip and touch her,” the SHO said.

Police said there was no else at the house when he attempted to rape the girl, police said. The FIR was registered after the girl’s parents approached the police on Saturday and later in the day, the suspect was apprehended from his home. The parents of both the girl and the boy work as daily wage labourers, police said.
