In an effort to spread awareness about the women's helpline number - 1091 - the Gurgaon police have now displayed it on all PCR vans.

Many residents of the Millennium City do not know about the helpline which was launched almost two months ago.
Following the furore over the Delhi gangrape case, the Gurgaon police have taken this initiative to make citizens more aware about the helpline facility. All 53 PCR vans across the city now have the number painted on it.
The facility functions round-the-clock and the number can be dialled from all telecom networks and landline numbers without prefixing area STD code of 0124.
On receiving a call, the information would be passed on to a nearby PCR van and within 3-5 minutes, the police personnel along with a women officer will reach the spot.
The corporate hub, which has a large number of working women, is infamous for having many dark spots and isolated stretches due to poor lighting. Those working in BPOs feel unsafe travelling home during odd hours.
ACP (headquarters) Poonam Dalal said, "Women cops are working in three shifts and 12 officers are deployed for the services, three each on a shift. Earlier, the police control room number 100 received the call and handled the complaint but now we have a 24x7 dedicated number for women."
Each call is recorded and monitored by a senior police official on a daily basis.
