Earlier, the chief minister had set December 31 as the deadline for the repair of roads.

The CM said that the public works department (PWD) will be the nodal agency for repairing roads as it has the requisite resources to execute the work in an efficient manner.

“The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) and Haryana urban development authority (Huda) cannot repair all roads and have various other civic duties and developmental projects to execute. Hence, it has been decided that the PWD will be responsible for repairing roads by the Haryana Day (November 1). The MCG and Huda will provide assistance to the PWD,” Khattar said.

The condition of roads in the city has deteriorated following heavy rain over the past month. Most roads are riddled with potholes.

PWD officials, meanwhile, said the department can start the work only after 10 days as any repair done now will be hindered by rain.

The CM also directed the Huda and MCG to clear encroachments and coordinate with each other for it.

Deputy commissioner TL Satyaprakash will supervise and oversee the work to ensure that the project meets its deadline.

Satyaprakash, who is also the MCG commissioner, said the civic body will comply with the CM’s order and provide its engineering department officials, earth moving machines and other construction machines to the PWD for the road repair work.
