On Saturday, the residents of Orchid Petals removed the security personnel hired by the developer and took charge of the management. Now the residents’ welfare associations of several other condominiums are also mulling similar measures.

“All our attempts to get our developer pay heed to our concerns of bad security, poor maintenance and operations in our society have failed to yield any result. We are writing to the chief minister and will soon take to streets,” said an RWA member of an upscale apartment in Sector-50.

In March 2012, a month after they took to streets against their developer for “shoddy” maintenance and “irregularities” in construction, residents of an upscale condominium - The World Spa at Sector 30- had shunted out the building maintenance staff and hired a new agency to take care of the operations, following the path shown by the residents of Orchid Petals.

“The builders have to accept that they cannot take us for a ride,” said Gautam Gulati, a World Spa resident and senior vice president of the Federation of Apartment Owners Association (FAOA).
