Residents offer Rs 11,000 reward after spate of burglaries in Gurgaon

The area has witnessed six daytime thefts in the last two months, including in a temple, and nearby localities. Thefts are reported to the police but there has been no headway in identifying or nabbing the accused, allege the residents.

“Residents are worried in leaving their houses as the accused strike even during daytime. We reported the matter to the police several times but to no avail. So, we announced reward of Rs 11,000 for anyone providing information about the accused or help in nabbing them,” said Shiva Choudhary, president of Prayas residents’ welfare association in Block-N.

He said the Mayfield Gardens locality is prone to thefts but there are some areas which are more vulnerable. The RWA is also distributing printouts of CCTV screen shots showing the accused. There has been a theft of Rs 2 lakh cash and some valuables from a house in Hero Honda floors on June 17 but the police so far have no clue in the case.

Manjju Banduni, a resident of Luxotica society in Block-N, said after repeated thefts, the police start patrolling but it is withdrawn after a few days and thefts repeat.

“There have been four thefts in one month in our society. As there are CCTV cameras in front sides, the accused cut backside grills to enter houses. A lady conducts recce of locked houses and later her accomplice strike,” said Banduni. Similar thefts were reported from Block-J and a number of two-wheelers also went missing.

Following repeated thefts, the residents of Block-C also installed 48 CCTV cameras, 120 LED lights, and fenced some open areas.

An official at Sadar police station said patrolling is done. However, as the locality is vast, it becomes tough to cover all areas. He said a team is working in identifying the accused.
