"Contractors assigned for garbage transportation will be told to use compactor, a covered vehicle, instead of dumpers. Garbage transported in open vehicles poses the risk of air pollution," Vijay Singh Dahiya, commissioner, MCG.

The commissioner will also inspect vehicles engaged in garbage collection in the MCG areas.

Dahiya has called a meeting of all the contractors and sanitation staff to discuss the tender provisions to make the use of compactor mandatory for garbage collection.

He asked the sanitation staff and the committee which cleared the sanitation tender for the 2012-13 to see if there is any scope to make compactors mandatory for contractors.

"If the tender is still with the MCG you must see scopes of compactor and if not then make sure this is included in the tender for next year," Dahiya said.
