Gourav Phogat, SHO, Sushant Lok police station, said Jumran was arrested from Ghaziabad and he is being brought to Gurgaon. Jumaran lives in Sriniwaspuri in Delhi.

“A team from Sushant Lok police station tracked the accused and arrested him through the location of his mobile phone,” he said. The accused was booked under sections 506 and 509 of IPC, said police.

In response to a query from HT, an Uber representative said the driver has been “permanently removed”.

“What’s been described is unacceptable. We internally reviewed the matter and have permanently disabled the driver’s access to the Uber app. Uber is complying with all legal processes and is in touch with the law enforcement authorities for any assistance,” said an Uber spokesperson.

The woman told the police that she had booked an Uber cab on Wednesday night from her office in DLF 5 to Sector 15.

Soon after the booking was accepted, the victim got a call from the cab driver during which she overheard two people talking to each other and got suspicious. She cancelled the ride and made another booking but it was again assigned to the same cab. She cancelled the booking again and made a third booking, said a police officer, quoting the complaint by the woman.

A few moments later she got a call from an “infuriated Jumran” allegedly abused her.

“During the 40-seconds call, he abused me and used vulgar language. I was shocked and snapped the call. I informed the police control room, where an official asked me to contact police station,” the victim told HT.

Thanking the police for swift action, the victim told HT, “He will now think a hundred times before doing this to any woman or anyone for that matter. He must learn his lesson.
