Woman molested at birthday party, husband assaulted

The woman’s husband, who had intervened, was attacked by the accused. The man was admitted to a city hospital, police said.

A 28-year-old married woman was allegedly molested by unidentified men, who were allegedly in an inebriated state, when she was dancing at her daughter’s birthday party at a banquet hall in Sector 14 on Monday night, police said on Wednesday.

The woman’s husband, who had intervened, was attacked by the accused. The man was admitted to a city hospital, police said. The condition of the victim’s husband is said to be stable.

An FIR was registered at Sector 14 police station under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code, based on a complaint by the woman.

The woman, a resident of Ramnagar in Sector 14, stated in her complaint, “One of the four unidentified men held my hand and forced me to dance with him. When my husband tried to stop him, he hit my husband with a plate.”

According to the complaint, the accused later fled and the victim’s husband was taken to a private hospital in the city.

Station house officer of Sector 14 Deepak said that there were no CCTV cameras in the banquet hall and police are yet to make any arrest in the case.
