Drug for Huntington's

Scientists claim to have found a way to control the brain condition called Huntington's disease.

British scientists may have discovered a way to control the debilitating brain condition called Huntington's disease. Huntington's disease is genetically inherited and occurs usually in middle age.

According to The Telegraph, preliminary tests have suggested that the drug Rapamycin delays the onset and progression of the incurable disease.

The researchers have also reported that Rapamycin reduces levels of the toxic protein that causes Huntington's disease.

Dr David Rubinsztein, a Wellcome Trust research fellow at Cambridge University has tested the drug, which is normally used to prevent organs being rejected after transplant.

"This is an exciting development which could be tremendously important for people suffering from Huntington's disease," the report quoted Rubinsztein as saying.

"Rapamycin is designed for long-term use which is obviously crucial for someone who has this disorder," he added.
