Baywatch, Priyanka Chopra’s debut Hollywood film, held its world premiere in Miami on Saturday. The film’s cast - Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach -- was accompanied by two stars from the original TV show: Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff.

Hasselhoff played Mitch Buchannon on the show, which ran from 1989-1999. In the movie, the role will be taken over by Dwayne Johnson.

But at the world premiere, Hasselhoff, 64, had some unexpected things to say about the movie.

“It’s funny, it’s pushing the envelope, but it’s not Baywatch – and I say that with a great amount of respect but a great amount of work that I put into Baywatch,” he told Mirror Online.

“I think they said, ‘We have the rights to do Baywatch and we’re gonna do it our way – and everything else is the highway’. I had to accept that. It’s either cry about it and watch it on TV or get in there and do what I can to make my moment.

“I saw the movie and I said, ‘This is gonna make a lot of money – but it’s still not Baywatch’. You can’t re-create David Hasselhoff.”

While news Hasselhoff’s cameo in the film was broken by The Rock without much drama on Instagram, his co-star Pamela Anderson initially refused to appear in the movie. She later came around, and posed with The Rock for a photo announcing her involvement.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live shortly after the release of the latest trailer, Priyanka told Kimmel that Hasselhoff called her up and said he wanted to do a Bollywood movie with her.

The film opens in India on June 2.
