23-year-old Telangana man arrested for raping, murdering girlfriend at resort

Police said the girl had been in a relationship with Sai Prasad for a while now. However, he had lately begun suspecting that she was getting close to another man from the same village.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend after raping her at a popular resort near Hyderabad on Thursday evening.

The incident came to light around 11 pm, after which a complaint was filed with the Ranga Reddy police. The accused has been identified as Sai Prasad, a resident of Timmapur village.

The girl, an undergraduate student from Kummariguda village, was found with her throat slit. Police handed the body to her father, the driver of a judge at the Hyderabad high court, after a post-mortem examination at the Chevella government hospital.

Police said the victim, who was preparing for several competitive examinations while pursuing a degree course in Hyderabad, had been in a relationship with Prasad for a while now. However, the accused had lately become suspicious that she was getting close to another man from the same village.

Prasad reportedly took the girl to the resort in Proddatur village on Thursday. After they had entered their room, he allegedly raped her before slitting her throat with his knife.

Resort officials alerted the police after chancing upon the victim’s lifeless body later that night. “We are investigating the matter,” said Shankarpally inspector K Shashank Reddy, adding that the accused was being questioned.
