Bihar, UP news: The updates to this live blog have ended. Following sudden flash floods along Nepal's Bhote Koshi River near the Tibet border that turned deadly on Wednesday, killing 362 people, Bihar has been placed on high alert due to the apprehension of a rise in the Gandak River's water level.

West Champaran District Magistrate (DM) Taranjot Singh said, “Administrative personnel are on alert at the Valmikinagar Barrage and other locations due to the floods in Tibet and Nepal... We have inspected various embankments and the Valmikinagar Barrage. The water has already crossed Devghat in Nepal. The water is expected to reach the barrage around 9 am. It is anticipated that the water level will remain below the danger mark and the situation will stay normal. We have alerted the people living in all the areas along the riverbanks,” news agency ANI reported.

A high alert has also been issued in Uttar Pradesh following directives from the chief minister Yogi Adityanath regarding floods in Nepal. Relief Commissioner's office is conducting round-the-clock monitoring of the situation.

Union home minister Amit Shah spoke to Bihar chief minister Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday amid a possible flood situation in the state and assured that all measures will be taken to extend support to the state.

Bihar news LIVE updates: 106 Nagpur tourists, stranded in Nepal, leave for Bihar's Danapur after Fadnavis' intervention

As many as 106 tourists from Nagpur, who were stranded in flood-hit Nepal, have reportedly safely left Kathmandu for Bihar's Danapur after Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis's intervention, his office said on Thursday evening.

The Maharashtra CMO said that Nepal MP Sandeep Rana arranged four minibuses to transport 106 people from Kathmandu to Janakpur. They are expected to reach the Janakpur-Bihar border on Friday morning.

Buses have also been reportedly arranged for their journey up to Danapur in Bihar, from where they would return to Nagpur by train.

Bihar, UP live updates: After flash floods hit Nepal on Wednesday, three bodies were reportedly recovered from the Gandak River in Uttar Pradesh's Maharajganj district on Thursday.

According to news agency PTI, SSB Inspector Arun Pandey said that three bodies believed to have been swept into the Gandak from Nepal had so far been recovered in Indian territory.

Pandey added that the river is flowing rapidly following heavy flooding in Nepal and more bodies could potentially be swept into Indian territory.

Notably, the identities of the deceased were not immediately known.

The local administration is also monitoring the water level and flow of the river.

Bihar news LIVE updates: MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared an update on the relief aid sent by India to Nepal during a press briefing on Thursday and said, “Two aircraft carrying humanitarian assistance have been sent to Kathmandu. A C-130J aircraft took off yesterday at around 8:30 p.m., carrying 10 tonnes of relief material, including temporary shelters, blankets, high-quality solar lamps, medicines, etc.”

“Then, this morning, a C-17 aircraft departed with 37.5 tonnes of supplies, comprising 28.5 tonnes of relief items, such as tents, blankets, hygiene kits, solar lamps, dewatering pumps, kitchen sets, generator sets, etc.; 8 tonnes of medicines; and 1 tonne of food items. In total, across the two airlifts, India has sent 47.5 tonnes of emergency relief supplies aimed at supporting Nepal's ongoing rescue and relief operations,” he added.

Muthunathan, husband of a stranded tourist, said, "She said that while they were nearing the Tibet border on 26th August around 9 am, they heard a loud sound. Her group has also sent a message to the TN Secretariat for help to be airlifted. Communication is suffering due to no network. Bihar, UP live updates: Critical hours passed off peacefully as the Gandak river’s sudden surge, triggered by upstream flash floods in Nepal and Tibet, receded overnight, officials said on Thursday morning. There is no need for panic, they emphasised, with embankments withstanding the pressure and water levels returning to normal.

The Valmiki Nagar barrage in West Champaran recorded its highest discharge of around 1.50 lakh cusec around midnight. By early morning, the flow had stabilised. At about 7 am, discharge stood at 95,200 cusec and later rose to around 99,800 cusec by 8 am, water resources department (WRD) secretary Chandra Shekhar Singh said.
